Early Reading Assessment

Recognizing where and how students are reading, especially in the context of COVID, is essential for K-2 educators.

Early childhood is a critical time for children both developmentally and for becoming readers.  Currently, most schools use literacy assessments that are not necessarily fully adaptable to a remote or blended school environment.  Teaching Matters has created a free assessment toolkit and tracker for Early Reading teachers.

What’s Included:

  • An assessment kit of resources that can be administered fully remotely and completely free to use
  • Learning activities, videos and simulations for teachers
  • All needed materials are within the assessment kit to directly download
  • A tracker is also available to record progress

These materials are not meant to take the place of a benchmark assessment, and can be used entirely as a set of activities to capture formative data.  They are flexible and adaptable.
